LISTENING

What, oh, what does Love impart?
Listen, listen, weary heart,
As it murmurs through the night,
Softly saying, God is light.

Is the darkness full of fears?
Are the dear eyes filled with tears?
Listen then, O troubled heart,
What, oh, what does Love impart?

Is it Love that gives thee sorrow?
Does Love teach to fear the morrow?
Did you listen, hungry heart,
What, oh, what does Love impart?

Neither darkness, hate, nor sorrow,
Neither troubles for the morrow,
Are of God. So, listening heart,
Hear the truth Love doth impart.
