Christian Science, like the basic law of mathematics or music, needs to be understood before it can be practised. It has been proven, over and over again, that Christian Science heals the sick, reforms the sinner, and sets the captive free.

Many cases of sickness are unsuccessfully treated by the medical profession, and sometimes doctors fail to heal by their medical knowledge, but such failures are not specially commented upon, nor are they taken as specific instances to prove the fallacy of medical treatment. There is therefore no apparent reason why Christian Scientists should be adversely criticized and ridiculed, when a practitioner fails to heal a case or when he has not fully understood the Principle of Christian Science. Its healing is not confined to adults, but is applicable to every individual in the universe; children are healed as successfully as adults and vice versa, since all mankind is controlled and governed by divine Principle. In a great percentage of the cases healed by Christian Science, other methods have been previously tried and failed to cure.

Our critic states, "If there were no money in it, we should hear very little of Mrs. Eddy's disciples." If there was no money in the world, we should still hear as much of Christian Science as we do today, but those who devote their time to humanity and who are instrumental in the healing of sin, sickness, and disease, are entitled to a return therefor just as are clergymen and doctors. Paul said, "If we have sown unto you spiritual things, is it a great thing if we shall reap your carnal things?" If all the time and energy that is used in denouncing Christian Science were used in trying to follow the teachings of Jesus in a practical way, the world would be greatly benefited, and critics would learn how to compare spiritual things with spiritual, instead of interpreting the teachings of Christian Science by their own material conceptions.
