AMONG THE CHURCHES

The Christian Scientists held an impromptu testimonial meeting at their chapel, corner of Ninth and Walnut, Sunday morning [Feb. 4], in order to show Representative O. J. Baxter what Christian Science had done for people he knew. Mr. Baxter was the guest of the society at the meeting.

There are some twenty public health bills before the present Legislature, some of which the Scientists believe would have a tendency to restrict and abridge the rights of individuals to choose for themselves the system of healing they might prefer. Senator Crowley and Mr. Baxter had been visited by a committee of the local society and requested to attend the services. Senator Crowley had made a prior engagement, but Mr. Baxter gladly attended to hear the views of the Scientists. When the Reader had closed the service, it was announced that in order briefly and comprehensively to put before the visitor the position of Christian Scientists, an opportunity would be given those present to testify to the healing that had come to them through the practice of Christian Science.

Among the many testimonials given were those of the cure of pneumonia, typhoid fever, small-pox, deafness, catarrh, neuralgia, headaches, grippe, bone felons, and other diseases. After hearing these testimonials and many others like them, Mr. Baxter said he believed in one's individual rights and that he would oppose any bill tending to limit them.—Rocky Ford Tribune.
