My heart overflows with grateful love that we are privileged to have our Leader's poem in book form. This is indeed another one of divine Love's blessing to humanity of good will and peace of earth. I have never known a dark hour or a struggle with mortal sense that some declaration of truth from one of these poems, repeated and held to, has not calmed the fear and brought peace and love and sunshine in my consciousness.

I wish to relate a little incident illustrative of this. About six years ago, when my oldest boy was five months old, he was exposed to a throat disease. My sister's little child had suffered from this disease, and the case having been fatal, my sympathy for her sorrow was very great. When my baby began to manifest symptoms of this disease, I was advised by a Christian Science practitioner to call a physician, and I did so. The physician advised me to watch the baby closely and to call him again. My fear, however, was so great that I was walking the floor in anguish, holding the child close to my heart, trying in a faint way to realize God's presence and love. I was then a very young Scientist as well as a young mother.

As I was reaching out to God to send me relief, this verse from "Christ My Refuge" (Poems, p. 12), came to me:
