I was a sufferer from rheumatism (at intervals) for years. In December, 1906, I had a very severe attack, which did not yield to the usual treatment; so I consulted a doctor and was under his care for seven or eight months, but was growing worse all the time. I finally got discouraged, and gave up all medicine except an opiate which he had left to make me sleep.

One day I met a friend, and he asked me why I did not try Christian Science. He gave me the name and address of a practitioner through whose aid he had been healed of a similar trouble. I laughed at the idea, but every time I had a severe twinge, his question would come up to me. About two weeks after that I did go to see the practitioner, and I was so impressed with what she said that before I left I took a treatment. She told me not to take the opiate that night. I did not believe I could get along without it, but I followed her instructions and immediately fell asleep. To my surprise it was seven o'clock when I opened my eyes the next morning, and then I realized that I had slept through the whole night without any pain or discomfort, a thing I had not done before for over a year. I continued to take treatment for about three months, and was entirely healed of the rheumatism and many other physical ailments, also of the habit of profanity, the liquor habit, and a most ungovernable temper.
