The time when I feel most grateful for Christian Science...
The time when I feel most grateful for Christian Science is when I look back a few years and see what a complete change it has made in my life. In December, 1904, after eight years of seemingly hopeless conditions of sickness, when all material remedies had failed, as a last resort I concluded to try Christian Science. The physicians called my disease nervous exhaustion, and I was in a state of collapse most of the time. My greatest enemy was fear. I knew nothing whatever of Christian Science, except that a friend had been healed by it, and I was willing to try anything. Of course, all I wanted was the physical healing, but I soon learned how many wrong things I had been thinking, and as I came slowly to understand something of this beautiful teaching,—that God is Love, that He is ever present, and that He does not send sickness and sorrow upon us,—new courage and strength gradually came to me, and I was healed.
My healing was slow; I think it was a year before I felt that I was free, and when my faithful practitioner used to tell me I would surely see the time I could walk and work,—do whatever I wanted to,—I could not believe it possible. But that time has now come. I am perfectly well and strong, and doing more work than ever in my life. The greatest happiness of all is, however, the spiritual inspiration—the "peace of God, which passeth all understanding"—and which no words can ever express. The knowing that God is ever with us,—the revealing light thrown on the Bible, which I never could understand before,—these are blessings for which I am more than grateful. I am grateful to Mrs. Eddy for showing us the way, and glad to live in an age when this healing truth has been given to the world. My greatest desire is to be a true Christian Scientist.
