"THE SUN OF RIGHTEOUSNESS"

After a heavy fall of snow, which in turn was succeeded by a keen frost, I was much interested in watching the efforts of the men who had the work of removing the snow from the roads and footpaths. How laborious and often futile were their efforts; and I noticed that the flagged pavement often showed the damage their spades had made in removing the ice.

The next day the sun appeared and shone steadily, hour after hour, and it was beautiful to watch and see how easily and gently it accomplished its work. Soon there was not a trace of the snow left. Then I thought, How like our condition before Christian Science came to our aid! How different and discouraging were our efforts to remove the discords of sin and disease; but the promise, "Unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings," has been fulfilled in our experience. As our consciousness is flooded by the warmth of divine Love, fear, selfishness, envy, hate,—all the many phases of error which throng the human mind.—begin to melt and disappear, and we feel it possible to say, as one of our hymns so clearly expresses it, "My path in life is free."

To refer once more to the snow, I noticed what a long time it remained in corners of the garden which missed the direct rays of the sun. So, deep in the human heart, there may be lurking hidden sins that may be retarding our growth or hindering our healing, and which need to be uncovered that the "sunlight of Truth" (Science and Health, p. 162) may do its work. Well may we all revere and love our dear Leader, who, not content with getting into the sunshine herself, is helping all mankind into the same happy place.
