Christian Scientists do not depend upon "suggestion" in...

New Orleans (La.) Picayune

Christian Scientists do not depend upon "suggestion" in healing either sickness or sin. They depend wholly upon the word of God, and every promise in the Bible supports their position and the work they are trying to accomplish, namely, the betterment of mankind spiritually, morally, and physically. In doing this work they depend upon an understood Principle and fixed rule. This Principle was understood, taught, and practised by Jesus and his disciples and by the early Christians for two or three centuries after the ascension, and was rediscovered and given to this age by Mrs. Eddy.

That healing by spiritual means alone has ample authority in the Scriptures is evidenced in the following passages from the Bible: "Bless the Lord, ... who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases." Jesus commanded, "As ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils." St. James writes, "Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church. ... And the prayer of faith shall save the sick. ... The effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much." Jesus did not use drugs in his healing or in his ministry, yet he healed "all manner of sickness and all manner of disease."

Mrs. Eddy, in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 404), says: "Healing the sick and reforming the sinner are one and the same thing in Christian Science. Both cures require the same method and are inseparable in Truth." The spiritualized man is the most scientific healer on the face of the globe. And there are thousands who are bearing testimony to the efficacy of Christian Science in the healing of both disease and sin.
