THE LECTURES
The Christian Science lecture by Frank H. Leonard at the Armory last night [Oct. 2] was delivered before a large audience. The lecturer was introduced by Theophilus Allen of Palo Alto, who said,—
The large audience assembled tonight shows how earnestly mankind is seeking for the voice of Truth. As of old, when Elijah lodged in the cave on Mount Horeb, listening and waiting for the voice of God—which was not in wind, nor in earthquake, nor in fire, but in the "still small voice"—so mankind is today waiting and listening for the same "still small voice." Mankind has failed to find this in materialism and its kindred thoughts, but Christian Science, the "still small voice" of Truth, comes today, and brings us a message from God, telling of our relationship to Him, a message which sheds light on darkened thought, gives surcease from sorrow, freedom from the bondage of sin, healing every sickness, assuaging every grief, and delivering the message of true brotherhood to mankind—the message of peace and love. It is the voice of Jesus the Christ, again speaking to the weary ones of earth that loving, tender message: "Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."
It is to this glad message that we are to listen tonight,—the practical, demonstrable truth of Christian Science,—for which thousands are giving thanks today, all the world over, who have recognized it to be the "still small voice" of Truth speaking to their individual consciousness, and from which we can all learn and understand the divine law and how to apply it. This law, when understood and applied aright, banishes grief and sorrow, heals sickness and sin, and leads us out of the wilderness and error and bondage into the light and happiness of life and love, verifying the words of the Master, who said, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." "I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you."—Palo Alto Times.
