While at dinner one Sunday, during the winter of 1904,...

While at dinner one Sunday, during the winter of 1904, I attempted to swallow a piece of meat, and it became lodged in the lower part of the passage to the stomach. I had experienced some slight difficulty of this kind before, but had been able to overcome it. I had learned through the study of Christian Science, as taught by Mrs. Eddy, something of the power of Truth, and I worked as well as I knew how during the remainder of the day and the following night, endeavoring to realize my freedom. In the morning I wrote to a practitioner who lives some fifty miles away, and was given absent treatment; but, as relief was not experienced, she came to see me, arriving a little before noon on Wednesday. I had not swallowed anything since Sunday at one o'clock, but after a short time spent in reading and silent prayer, we were called to the dinner-table, and I was able to drink, and also ate a light dinner, experiencing no difficulty in swallowing except a slight sensation of soreness. What would have been my situation under material treatment I know not, but my thankfulness and gratitude to God, who heals all our diseases, is beyond expression.

I am very grateful also for the help and freedom which Christian Science has brought to us in many other ways. Our oldest daughter laid aside glasses which she had long worn for a severe case of eye trouble, and this she did through reading the text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." Every member of the family has experienced more or less of Truth's healing power. We have had no occasion to use any medicine in our house for over six years, and this is indeed a great boon in a family of eight children.—Hattie Webster, Whiting, Vt.
