Jesus, by living in accord with God's true spiritual law, founded Christianity, and the basis of his life (the spiritual law) has been taken by all Christian denominations as a basis for their religious faith. Since the life of Jesus upon which Christianity is founded was based on a knowledge of the true spiritual law (certain knowledge, the perfect Science of God) then Christianity to be Christian must be scientific and Science to be Science must be Christian. Therefore the combining of the words "Christian" and "Science" is not only justifiable but consistent, logical, and natural.

Christian Science does not deny the phenomena of the material universe or that mankind in this material existence does not experience suffering, sickness, and death. But Christian Science teaches how to claim "dominion over all the earth," which is the birthright of every child of God. The exercise of this dominion banishes these abnormal conditions, brings freedom from the ills of the flesh, and reveals the true status of man made in the image and likeness of God and governed by the law of his Maker. This is in accord with Jesus' teaching and healing work. He taught men how to live in accord with God's law and be submissive to the will of God, and thus to nullify the "works of the flesh" or the "carnal mind."
