Christian Science does not deny the material universe,...
Atlanta (Ga.) Journal
Christian Science does not deny the material universe, sin, and the evils of life in the way that Dr. Hull seems to think it does. Its ideal and effort are to deny self and sin as Jesus said all must do in order to enter into life, peace, and dominion over evil. Instead of doing away with the necessity of a Saviour, it makes Christ the present and forever Saviour from all the ills that flesh is heir to. It makes the atonement mean unity with all that God is and separation from all that He is not. It reveals a healing as well as a saving Christ. It teaches that God is just as willing and able to save, heal, and meet every human need today as He ever was. It makes clear that it is as necessary and possible for us to deny and overcome the world, the flesh, and the devil as it has ever been.
In referring to the Christ as the divine ideal, God's ideal, and by teaching that this ideal is vital, practical, and real, it honors Christ and heals and blesses those who look away from imperfect human models or ideals and look to this perfect one. It teaches that, since we become like our ideals, since we become like that which we look upon with admiration and affection, nothing is more important than right ideas and ideals. It also teaches that we should have for our highest ideal and Saviour nothing less perfect than the Christ.
