With heartfelt gratitude I wish to acknowledge some...
With heartfelt gratitude I wish to acknowledge some of the blessings which Christian Science has brought into my life. Two years ago I was practically an invalid; I had exhausted material remedies in struggling for relief from very serious physical and mental suffering. After many months of rigid dieting, and almost constant attendance of a trained nurse, besides taking the usual amount of medicine to be expected under the circumstances, my condition was worse than ever, and I had lost all hope of regaining my health. In utter desperation, I decided to go to the seashore, and engaged apartments for myself and a dear friend who had kindly consented to go with me, at a hotel with a sanitarium in connection. Fortunately (although I then thought otherwise), there was a misunderstanding as to the date for which I had reserved rooms, and I was notified by the hotel on the eve of my departure that my arrival must be delayed. I decided, however, to go at once, and engaged quarters at another hotel, entirely unfitted to accommodate one in my condition, expecting to move in a few days to the hotel sanitarium. At the end of three miserable days and sleepless nights I felt that I had reached the limit of my endurance.
While waiting for my friend in the reading-room of the hotel where I was staying, on this memorable morning, I picked up a widely-read magazine, and opened it aimlessly. I began to read an article which proved to be a very bitter criticism of Christian Science, a subject about which I knew nothing; but when I found that it claimed a healing power, I determined to investigate, as I knew of nothing else to try. In half an hour my friend and I were in consultation with a Christian Science practitioner. Would that I could express the peace which came into my heart when the good woman to whom I had been led, told me that God could and would heal me, if I would only trust Him implicitly. Then and there I found what I thought had been lost forever.
After the first treatment I was healed of several of the most distressing conditions; and immediately began to eat anything I desired without suffering the slightest inconvenience, and to sleep soundly every night; whereas for many months my diet had been confined to liquids and my nights were only hours of suffering. In three weeks I came home happier, healthier, and stronger than I had been in years. In a reasonable time my healing was complete, and some very annoying conditions from which I had suffered since childhood had been entirely corrected. For nearly two years I have been blessed with perfect health. Thankful as I am to God for this proof of His omnipotence, I feel a yet deeper gratitude for the spiritual awakening which has revealed divine Love as ever present and ever sufficient, and which has taught me that God does not send—but instead heals—our diseases.
