Love grows when it is put to use, and becomes robust only in unselfishly laboring for the good of others. Does any one then want to know the way into the possession of perfect love? Let him be told plainly that it will not come to him simply by waiting inactively in any vacant and receptive mood. It will not come solely by petitioning for it, nor by any act of faith alone. Faith must unite itself with works and be fused in a glowing ardor which flames out in deeds of sympathy and kindness to one's needy fellows. It was thus that the good Samaritan came into this grace. It was thus by going about "doing good" that Jesus exemplified it.—Anon.
