THE LECTURES

Bliss Knapp delivered a lecture on Christian Science at the Peterson Theater Nov. 13. He was introduced by the Hon. A. P. Park, who said in part,—

Whatever may have been our motives in coming to this lecture, I feel sure that when we shall have heard the lecturer for the evening, we shall all of us be gratified and delighted to know that the religion he presents is but the doctrine taught and exemplified by our Lord and Master, Christ Jesus,—a religion which has for its object and purpose the betterment of mankind; a religion which teaches love not hate, charity and peace not envy and strife; a religion which teaches and impels its followers to observe right thinking, right living, and right practice; a religion which reforms, purifies, which builds churches and which has attracted to it and now numbers among its followers thousands of intelligent, strong, healthy, and cheerful men and women, who are ever looking upward and not downward. Such results are strong if not convincing evidence that there must be some substantial basis for the Christian Science belief.—Correspondence.
