It would be impossible for me to tell of all the blessings...
It would be impossible for me to tell of all the blessings which Christian Science has brought me in the past few years. I can speak of the physical healing that has come to me, but the peace, quietness, and happiness that is mine can be expressed only in striving daily to live so near to the Master in thought and deed that others may see the reflection and ask whence it comes. Then I can answer gladly in the words of our dear Leader, " 'Go and take the little book.' ... Take divine Science. Read this book from beginning to end. Study it, ponder it" (Science and Health, p. 559). There is no subject of which we now need to know, that this book does not illuminate, and no ill which it will not cure, if we but follow its teaching faithfully.
To me Christian Science has opened up a treasure, rich and rare, in the study of the Bible, which constantly yields me new jewels as I seek; and these discoveries have always been with "signs following," mentally, morally, physically, and financially. I had been an invalid for twenty years or more, from so-called organic disease of the heart, nervous breakdown, headaches, etc., and after several years of medical treatment for abdominal trouble, four surgical operations left me a physical wreck. I was in three different hospitals for more than a year, leaving them a misery to myself and my friends. I was then told of Christian Science, and went to a practitioner and had a few treatments. I was greatly benefited thereby, but I left the city soon after, and gradually drifted back into materia medica. Once more I tried everything I could hear of, as well as osteopathy, hot springs, and change of climate. The final verdict was that I was likely to die at any moment. Then, like the prodigal son, I again turned my face toward the Father's house; not that I really believed I could be healed, but there was nothing else to do, and I thought Christian Science would prepare me for the change so soon to take place.
Wonderful to relate, the dear practitioner told me that Christian Science would show me how to live, not die; that all things are possible to God, and that I could be healed. After two weeks' treatment I could scarcely believe I was the same woman; the discord had melted away like vapor in the sunshine, except the heart trouble. A sister and brother had passed on under this disease, and it seemed inevitable that I should follow. This condition continued nearly four years, until the search-light of Truth was turned within, and there I found sensitiveness, pride, fear, self-pity, self-condemnation, etc., and I knew this was not the reflection of that Mind which was in Christ Jesus. I saw that to have a healthful body I must have right thoughts. Into the darkness a great light had shone; my earnest desire to be better reached the great heart of ever-present Love, and I was instantly healed.
