[Written for the Sentinel.]

I DO NOT FEAR

What is this message from the spheres of silence—
This Spirit-music which I, waiting, hear?
What is it calms earth's sense of sin and violence?
'Tis God now speaking, and I do not fear.

I do not fear, for Truth divine hath found me;
Sufficient, then, to know that God is near.
That ever-present Love and care surround me;
There is no ill to dread. I do not fear.

What though the past held error, pain, and sadness?
All things I now behold with vision clear;
Today is rich with promise, peace, and gladness;
Tomorrow, too, is fair. I do not fear.

While once I dreaded all the misty future,
And all the days held prospects sad and drear,
I now, in growing up to Christ's full stature,
Greet bravely every day. I do not fear.
