[Written for the Sentinel.]

"ALWAY."

"Lo , I am with you alway"—blest assurance!
No doubts torment me now, no fears assail,
I face life's battle with a calm endurance,
The truth my sword, and love my coat of mail.

No foe without, no foe within can harm me,
Since faith and knowledge now go hand in hand;
The world's allurements never more can charm me,
The Rock is mine, and not the shifting sand.

"Lo, I am with you alway"—down the ages
Ringeth the Master's promise, clear and sweet;
And all in vain the storm of error rages,
The "everlasting arms" around us meet.
