For penalties due the State of Texas for violation of the anti-trust laws the State has seized the property and garnisheed funds of the Security Oil Company, the National Oil Company, the Waters-Pierce Oil Company, and the Navarro Refining Company.
The
mortal who admits that he cannot grasp the spiritual meaning of the Christian Science text-book is not competent to explain what Christian Science is or is not.
Four
years of war, just prior to the discovery of Christian Science, had cost the American nation a half million of its noblest sons,—men who knew no fear; in fact, as brave soldiers as ever faced a cannon's mouth or dared the bayonet's thrust.
In
an Eastern university a paper was recently presented in which fear was discussed and its advantages ably stated from a so-called practical standpoint.
"Lo
, I am with you alway"—blest assurance! No doubts torment me now, no fears assail,I face life's battle with a calm endurance,The truth my sword, and love my coat of mail.
The criticism in question, like a vast majority of the same nature, touches lightly on several aspects of Christian Science before proceeding to its main generalization.
The
innumerable advertising circulars with which those whose names appear in the directory of practitioners published in The Christian Science Journal are being constantly deluged, would seem to indicate that a general confidence has been established in the minds of many people who have "something to sell.
Modern
life presents one very encouraging fact in the distinct growth of the social sense, the consciousness of racial and international brotherhood, and one of the indications of this advance is found in the world-wide interest in the great national holiday which the people of the United States are just now celebrating.
Among
the many evidences of progress at the present time are the numerous protests from the press against the rather barbaric manner in which the birth of this nation has of late years been celebrated.

O Love
, that to the cry of our poor heartsStands ever-ready with an answer sweet,In this fair spring-time of a soul reborn,We lay our offerings humbly at Thy feet.

Seven and a half years ago Christian Science came into my life, and it has since then been the sunshine of God's ever-presence to me, even "a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path," chasing away in no small degree the dark shadows cast by fear and ignorance.
As the testimonies in the Sentinel and Journal are so helpful to me each week and month, I desire to add my mite, trusting that it in turn may help some one else, although my gratitude for Christian Science cannot be expressed in words.
Twenty years ago I witnessed the power of a Christian Science treatment, when my father was given the first natural, peaceful sleep in several weeks; but although this proof was unmistakable, the opposition of relatives prevented a continuance of the treatment.
Christian Science came to me about three years ago, when I was indeed a miserable creature, and I can never find words to express what it has done for me in that short time.
