For nearly forty years I suffered from a sore on my ankle, during which time I consulted a great many doctors. Some of them said they could not cure it, and a great many tried to do so, but only two or three were successful in helping me even temporarily. In one instance the sore remained healed for about a year, when it opened again and kept growing larger and worse each day, with no hope of its ever getting better. After running along for years it finally become so painful that I could not put my foot on the floor, so I called in another doctor, only to hear him say that he could do nothing to help me; he could only offer me something to relieve the pain, so that I could lie quietly and be able to rest. I certainly felt as though it was only a question of a short time when I lose my leg, and often when I was suffering I tried to think what terrible sins I could have committed for which God was punishing me.

In November, 1904, my attention was called to Christian Science, and I called in a practitioner and began the study of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." After a week's treatment, and by the light thrown upon the Bible through the study of Science and Health, I learned that God is love and that my suffering was not from Him, but rather was the result of my erroneous conception of Him. At the end of the second week I was able to walk around, and after the third week I was entirely healed. This healing was regarded as quite wonderful by those unacquainted with the power of Truth. During the past summer one of the many physicians who had attended me, hearing of my healing, called and asked to examine my ankle, which he was permitted to do. He expressed himself in substance as follows: "If Christian Science did this. Christian Scientists surely have something we doctors have not, but which we sadly need." He then asked permission to bring the case before the next meeting of the medical society. After having suffered so many years, I am indeed grateful, and wish to add that Christian Science has not only benefited me physically, but mentally as well. No one could help but feel better after reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and no money would buy my book if I could not get another copy.
