I know from my own experience, and in my family...

I know from my own experience, and in my family, that Christian Science is all that Mrs. Eddy claims for it. Two years ago I believed that Christian Scientists were a lot of cranks, who were following a fad that would end as all fads do. Two years ago my wife was thrown from her surrey, and received very severe injuries, both external and internal. She was under the care of two physicians a part of the time, and also had the services of a masseur. Serious rheumatic trouble then set in, and I took her to the beach, where she remained three months, and improved somewhat. On going back to our home in Los Angeles, however, her suffering returned, and although we tried all kinds of medicine, she kept growing worse, and one evening when I returned from my business I found her with intense agony depicted on her face. I saw at once that something must be done, and asked her what I should do. I wanted to send for a physician, but she motioned for me to be seated. She at first said that no physician could help her, but after trying external applications, she could not stand the pain any longer, and asked me to call a physician to give her some narcotic to relieve the pain; which I did. The physician said the trouble was not rheumatic and diagnosed it as a result of her injuries. One limb was in a distressing condition, and the doctor said there was no known remedy for the disease. He added the information that to bring about a change in her condition might take six days, six weeks, or six months, and also that the disease might leave her a cripple for life. Our feelings may be imagined, but after the doctor left, my wife asked me if I had any objections to trying Christian Science, as a friend of hers had recommended it, and it seemed to be the last resort. I was willing to try anything, so we called a practitioner, and three days later my wife walked down-stairs and opened the door for the practitioner when she came. It took, however, about two months to effect a complete cure. That was about eighteen months ago, and she is a strong and healthy woman to-day.

One morning our little boy four years old went across the street where workmen were rebuilding a cottage, and climbed to the top of the house unknown to the workmen. He got over an iron railing which protected a skylight, and seeing something on the opposite side of the glass, started to crawl over for it. He crashed through the glass and fell across some heavy beams, striking on his stomach. A workman heard the crash and rushed up the stairs, took the child in his arms and brought him home. He seemed to be badly injured, and was suffering severely. His mother immediately declared the truth, and she also telephoned for a practitioner. In a short time this lady was at the bedside treating him. He seemed to suffer intensely, but finally relief came. When I returned in the evening and was told that our baby had been badly injured, I at once declared the truth. I made what demonstration I could when I reached the bedside and saw that he certainly had had a narrow escape. My wife remained with him all that night, and when I awoke next morning I thought I heard him outside. I, however, considered that to be impossible, but ran to the window and looked out. He was with a lot of other boys, and I called to him and asked him how he was. He replied, "I'se all right! I'm going to show the boys where I falled through the skylight." He was all right! Christian Science made him so, and it will make any one right who faithfully follows its teachings.
