lI am indeed deeply grateful for what Christian Science has done for me. I had always been very delicate, having to be absent from school for weeks at a time because of severe coughs and colds, a condition supposed to be hereditary, as my father had passed on from throat and lung trouble. When Christian Science found me, about six years ago, I was a physical wreck, with a terrible cough and suffering from extreme nervousness. I had been troubled with this cough for weeks, and could obtain no relief. I was able to get but very little sleep, and this was so wearing upon me that I was obliged to go to a hospital, the doctors having assured me that they could cure me in two weeks; but at the end of that time I was very little better and still had the cough.
It was through the kindness of a dear friend that a copy of Science and Health was placed in my hands. I began to read it, and received so much benefit that I at once threw away all medicine and gave up wearing glasses. From that time to this I have never had any desire to use the glasses or to return to materia medica. I continued to read and study the text-book, so as to gain a better understanding of this truth, and six weeks later, with the aid of a practitioner, my cough had entirely disappeared. I soon became strong and well, and was able to take up my duties.
I have had many trials since coming into Christian Science, but have found its teaching an ever-present help in these times of need. It has also enabled me to have a kind and loving disposition. The most severe trial that I have had was about three years ago, when I seemed to have some obstruction in my throat which for three weeks made it difficult for me to take solid food: but with the aid of a practitioner, who worked faithfully for me for nine weeks, the error was overcome. All this time I went right on with my duties, declaring the truth and knowing that God is All-in-all and that He all space, and at length I was able to say I had fought a "good fight" and had conquered the error. I am thankful that I am now able to eat whatever I like without any discomfort, and I have had no return of the trouble.
