The Granger,
Christian Science is based solely upon the Bible and the teachings and works of Jesus. Jesus established no form of religion, no church organization. He did say, "The hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father. ... But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth; for the Father seeketh such to worship him." Christian Science points out that the mission of Jesus was to make plain the relation of man to his creator. He not only explained to mankind the fundamental truths of being, but he exemstrated them as well, in his life. He abundantly demonstrated his power by causing the lame to walk and the blind to see: the lepers were cleansed, the dead were raised, and hosts of the people whom he taught believed and gave God the glory. Christian Science teaches that we must obey the injunction of the great apostle, "Prove all things; hold fast that which is good." Progress in Christian Science is based solely upon demonstrable experience.
Christian Scientists believe in God, in the divinity of Christ, in the inspiration of the Scriptures, in unceasing prayer, in the highest morality of thought and conduct, and in the practical possibility of a present overcoming of sin and all its effects through spiritual apprehension of the Christ-teaching. There is doubtless a great misapprehension touching the correct application of the Christian Science Principle and rules, and for that reason many inaccurate statements are made concerning its teaching, but its unqualified demand is that mankind go back in Christian experience to the simple Christ-teaching, wherein the command is given: "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbor as thyself."
