My heart goes out in unspeakable gratitude to God for...
My heart goes out in unspeakable gratitude to God for His great gift to us, through our beloved and revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, whose inspired thought, inscribed in our text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." has indeed unlocked the treasures of the kingdom of heaven within us. I am glad to add my testimony to the many cases of impersonal healing effected by the power of God manifest in our services. Nearly eight years ago I was entirely and permanently cured, while attending for the first time the Sunday morning service at First Church of Christ, Scientist, New York, of a condition which had made me a cripple for three years. I had been injured in a street car, and being at the time a medical student, had the best medical and surgical care. At the end of the three years I was suffering from chronic sciatic trouble, and was said to have incipient hip disease. I could not bear my weight on my left leg without great pain, and my nervous system—according to the physicians—was badly shattered. All these conditions were entirely removed by the power of divine Love, reflected at that memorable service, and I went out of the church perfectly free from the disease. During these eight years I have had many opportunities of proving the truth of the divine Principle taught us in Christian Science, and I have never known the truth to fail when honestly and persistently applied.
I am especially grateful for the method of mental diagnosis, which has enabled me to see that self-love, self-righteousness, and all the other fruits of the carnal mind in one's own consciousness are the producing cause of "the ills to which flesh is heir," and I am again grateful to Mrs. Eddy for showing us the way out of this bondage into the land of peace, where we realize in our daily living the beauty of holiness.
Mrs. Nellie Welles Probst, New York, N. Y.
