Most gladly and gratefully I pass on this little word of hope. Over four and a half years ago, when almost a constant invalid, Mrs. Eddy's remarkable book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," was lovingly brought to my notice, and I somewhat doubtingly began its study. Hitherto, acting under medical advice, I had tried many modes of treatment at home and abroad, but none brought me release from the nervous or rheumatic trouble from which I was said to be suffering. Kindness, skill, and many prayers had been equally unavailing; yet, with the first dawn of Truth on my awakened thought, I was released from the old bondage. Since the red-letter day on which I began to read Science and Health I have not spent one day on a bed of pain, where for ten years previous much of my time had been passed. Mineral baths, electricity, massage, hot air, and countless medicines at once passed out of my life. I had begun to learn that "the might of omnipotent Spirit shares not its strength with matter" (Science and Health, p. 194).
The work thus begun goes on. In the gradual uplifting of thoughts, motives, and desires, in wonderful spiritual and mental enlightenment and many physical benefits, I have proof beyond all doubt of the holiness of the ground on which I stand. Christian Science alone taught me how to avail myself of God, as the one ever-present healer of sickness as well as of sin. I always believed that the weapons of our warfare were spiritual, but I never knew before how to wield them effectually. Our text-book, that immortal message of Truth and Love, has thrown such a flood of spiritual light upon the Scriptures that through their joint study every problem of human existence is at last being solved. Truly I have great cause for gratitude to our dear Leader, through whose loving self-sacrifice, under divine Love, I have touched the hem of the seamless robe of the healing, eternal Christ.
Edith S. Grant, St. Saviour's, Jersey, Channel Isles.
