It gives me great pleasure to testify in behalf of the truth, when I think of the many benefits I have received through Christian Science, both mental and physical. My heart overflows with gratitude to God, and to our dear Leader, who has made the way so clear to one who was far from the truth. For fifteen years I was a great sufferer from rheumatic trouble, employing eminent physicians both in this country and abroad, spending many thousands of dollars and never receiving any benefit, and with no encouragement of relief from pain, but that I must expect to be a cripple. About seven years ago I had a fall, which resulted in serious injury to the hip and ankle. When I arose from my bed I found the right leg was considerably shorter than the other. I was obliged to walk on a shoe having a sole four and three quarters inches high, and also used crutches for some six years. My sufferings at times were almost unberable. It was impossible for me to lie down, and what little sleep I had was taken in a very uncomfortable position.
Since I accepted Christian Science, all is changed. I am no longer on crutches; I have laid aside my high shoe, and am walking on my feet with slight difficulty. Each day brings its own improvement, for which I am very thankful, particularly as I had been told by so many physicians that I could never walk again. Sometimes, when thinking over the wonderful change wrought in my case,—all through Christian Science,—I feel I should like to be able to proclaim its truth to all who are in distress, whether bodily or mental, to let them know and feel the nearness of God, who is the only healer of our sorrows and diseases.
