In January, 1901, my grandson was sent from Durban, Natal, to Cape Town, wher I then resided, for a change of climate. He was then six years of age and had been suffering from asthmatic trouble since he was six months old. After a few months in Cape Town the trouble commenced again, and he had several severe attacks. Medical aid was called in, but no improvement was affected. In 1902 we returned to our home here in Johannesburg, got from Philadelphia, U.S.A., for a period of nine months an assortment of medicines with professional advice and instructions for the treatment of the child. but no cure was obtained. On the contrary, we expected many times to lose the child when he was under the terrible attacks.
Towards the middle of 1904 we were blessed with the knowledge of Christian Science, and soon began, with the help of a Christian Scientist, the study of Science and Health. My grandson from that time gradually improved. He is now perfectly well, growing strong, plays football and cricket like any other healthy boy, is able to work hard at his studies. and attends the Sunday School of First Church of Christ, Scientist. Moreover, he has used no medicine since about June, 1904. From the time that Christian Science came to us, both my wife and myself have also been very much benefited by the spiritual uplifting to a higher sphere of life. For myself, there has been the healing of rheumatic trouble of fourteen years' duration, recovery of sight, the healing of stomach trouble, besides ever so many other ailments. My wife also has overcome the need of eyeglasses, and many other physical troubles. We have not used any medicine for the last three years, and have been able to help many a one seeking for Truth.
I am indeed very grateful to God for the many, many blessings and benefits received, and for the assurance of receiving more through the message contained in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," by that God fearing and loving disciple, Mrs. Eddy, whose life and example are an inspiration to God's children who follow the Master's commands.
