Who are the Spiritually Minded?
To be carnally minded is death: but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.—PAUL.
THE true standard of spirituality was exemplified in Christ Jesus, "who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil." Jesus was the broadest-minded man who ever appeared on earth. Why? Because he possessed a scientific knowledge of God as infinite Mind, and of man as created in the image and likeness of this Mind: and this spiritual understanding enabled him to extirpate sickness and sin, and to annul every so-called law of matter. He knew that the real man could not be separated from the Mind that conceived him, and this gave him divine authority for rejecting the erroneous testimony of the physical sense, which deny the spiritual perfection of God and man. The natural effect of his scientific thought upon the health and morals of men is still styled miraculous by those who misinterpret spirituality.
Jesus' own words, "Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God," clearly express the keynote of all spirituality. It is the mission of Christian Science, moreover, to lift the thought of purity above the level of physicality to the plane of pure spirituality, where it is just as incumbent upon the follower of Christ to eliminate from consciousness the thought of animate matter as it is the thought of sin and disease. Ethical and moral teachings of the past have advocated a spirituality which has left undisturbed humanity's belief of life, substance, and intelligence in matter; while Christian Science begins at once to uncover the false foundations of this belief as being the sole cause of all the troubles of earth. Christian Science does not rob mankind of one single thing that is good, pure, or true. It simply corrects a mortal, finite sense of that which is called good, and, clothing thought with spiritual power and understanding, brings it in touch with man's Maker, thus making it possible to apprehend and demonstrate the practical utility of the Principle of all health, goodness, purity, and righteousness in every walk of life.
