THE LECTURES

The annual lecture under the auspices of First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Concord, was delivered Sunday evening [Oct. 28] in the church edifice, corner State and School Streets, before an audience which completely occupied all available space in the commodious auditorium. While there were small parties of Christian Scientists present from out of town, the audience was practically made up of Concord people and represented all faiths and callings, being widely representative of all classes of the city's people.

The lecturer was Prof. Hermann S. Hering. Mayor Charles R. Corning was the presiding officer and his introductory remarks were as follows:—

It is not within my competency, nor is it my purpose to speak to you this evening concerning Christian Science as Christian Science, but I feel that I should not be justified on this occasion if I failed to say a word respecting Christian Science and its relations to Concord. As the representative of all our people, it cannot be unbecoming in the mayor to touch briefly on this subject.
