THE INFLUENCE OF Mrs. EDDY'S WORK

It has been said of Mrs. Eddy's teachings that they "have influenced modern spiritual thought more deeply than any other religious propaganda of the time, and they have not been without effect even on medical practice." That this estimate of her work is not exaggerated is shown by the effort now being made by many within the communion of the Episcopal Church to return to a compliance with the Scriptural demand for the healing of the sick through what they believe to be spiritual means.

A proof that the churches are trying to comply with the demand for the healing of sickness as a part of their regular work, is the movement recently started by the rector of Emmanuel Episcopal church in Boston, and that this work has the approval of the medical profession may be inferred from the fact that Dr. Cabot of Harvard University has been prominent in the preliminary organization of the workers in this new departure.

Another proof of the change which modern religious views have undergone since the publication of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, is to be noted in the following report of a lecture by Prof. Francis G. Peabody of Harvard University, which we copy from the Boston Herald. Professor Peabody said in part:—
