It is over a year since I first saw any Christian Science...

It is over a year since I first saw any Christian Science literature. A friend who had been healed in Christian Science gave me some Sentinels, and loaned me a copy of Science and Health. I have never once failed to read at least a few lines each day in this wondrous book, a copy of which I bought as soon as I had read the borrowed one. I felt I could not afford to be without it. After attending church a few times, I procured the Quarterly, and since then have always read the Lesson-Sermon for each week. I find great help and inspiration from reading the Sentinel. I think each week as I read the articles that nothing can be better than these, and I find nothing that is, until the next Sentinel comes. I feel very grateful for Christian Science. I awoke one morning with an unaccountable sense of lassitude, and a disagreeable feeling generally. I could eat no breakfast and continued to feel worse, but tried to keep up, all the time denying, rather feebly, I am afraid, my sense of illness. However, I persisted in keeping about, doing my marketing, etc., alternated with periods of rest. Chills kept shaking me from head to feet, but I did not go to bed until after luncheon. Then I sent word to a practitioner, for by that time I recognized a well-developed case of the grip. I knew the sensations, as I have had it before. I was burning with fever and racked with pain in my head and body. Right in the midst of my severest suffering I fell asleep, but awoke in about an hour, only to have all the symptoms return. My daughters tried to aid me by reading to me, but I could find no ease from the pain, so I sent word again to the practitioner. After a time I again fell asleep and awoke only when she stopped in to see me on her way to church. With the exception of about an hour's suffering in the night, I slept well. When I was awake, I was so happy to be free from pain; it seemed too good to be true, and I just lay there, trying to realize it. The next morning I felt better than I had for several days. I arose, dressed, and got through the day very comfortably. I am a physician's daughter, brought up in an atmosphere of materia medica, and prior to this had always been treated by a physician, so the experience seemed all the more wonderful to me, as my healing, in previous cases of grip, was always, much slower. My suffering then lasted much longer and I was always in bed several days instead of one half day as at this time. Formerly, when I did get up, it was always with a sense of deadly weakness following the malady, but this time I neither looked nor felt much, if any, the worse for the battle with error. This was my first experience of healing in Science, and I feel very grateful for it.—LYNNE EDIE BAKER, Everett, Wash.
