Our Business

The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do; for what things soever He doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.

John, 5:19.

In these few words Jesus defined the practice of his teachings, or Christian Science, for all time. He showed that man cannot act independently, and that he acts rightly only as he is divinely impelled, when he does what he sees the Father do, when he reflects his divine Principle. In order to know what the Father does, man must know what the Father is. Referring again to Jesus' words, we find that he said, "I and my Father are one;" "I am the way, the truth, and the life;" also, "God is Spirit" (Revised Version), and he taught his beloved student, John, that "God is love." Thus he defined God to be Life, Truth, Spirit, Love,—terms which express infinite intelligence or Mind. That which has not Love is not true, is not spiritual, is not intelligent, and therefore has no mind. We thus find that the Christian revelation of God, and the practice growing out of it, are identical with the present revelation of God, Truth, in Christian Science, and its practice.
