When Christian Science was presented to me I was a liberal or skeptic; and my first impression of its teachings was that it was nothing more than mental suggestion or transferrence of thought; but an honest desire to know the truth for truth's sake, soon dispelled this illusion, and as I continue to study the Bible in connection with Science and Health, it imparts a knowledge of divine Principle which illumines the Bible and makes practicable and demonstrable to-day the teaching of Jesus Christ. Of this we have had many wonderful proofs in our city, but I will write only of a few in my family.
Our daughter had been in poor health for years, and our physicians had told us they could do nothing more for her. She was completely healed in Christian Science. Our oldest boy while in a barn-loft to the ground floor. He struck on his head, and was picked up unconscious, with blood flowing from his mouth, nose, and ears, and with signs of internal bleeding. Afterwards a large amount of clotted blood passed through him; and kind neighbors insisted on calling a physician, but the true Physician,—divine Mind,—healed him.
Again while he was playing with some gunpowder, it exploded close to his face, completely filling his eyes and nostrils with powder. The concussion and burn was so severe that it cracked open his chin and lips, and the balls of his eyes were burned so that he could not see. His blackened and distorted features were a distressing sight; but in three days the skin began to peel off. In about a week all marks had disappeared, and thanks to Christian Science, his eyesight is now perfect.
