In grateful acknowledgment of the benefit which I have...
In grateful acknowledgment of the benefit which I have received through Christian Science. I give my testimony. It is now five years since I first heard its name mentioned. I was at that time in a hopeless condition. I suffered with recurring epileptic attacks which were followed by mental derangement, lasting from eight to ten days. It made my life a burden, and I was constantly harboring thoughts of suicide. Medical prescriptions as well as the application of a so-called radical or secret remedy proved unavailing. Consequently I was exempt from my military duties. According to the opinion of experts, the cause of my illness could be attributed to my childhood growth, and it was said that it would in time disappear.
That was the only comfort given in answer to my gloomy inquiries. Christian Science soon discovered the real cause of the disease; namely, immoral habits, and it immediately began to destroy the cause. The error resisted with all its force,—prejudice, doubt, unbelief, contempt, and pride; con sequently the attacks grew worse, so that it seemed for a time as if I was without hope and without God in the world. However, error gradually had to yield, the attacks grew less, and after two months disappeared, without ever returning.
I then considered the physical healing the principal blessing of Christian Science, and believed that now all was done, but this was a mistake. The all-important thing; namely, the spiritual regeneration, demanded all my ability to destroy the false consciousness of being; a task which gave me and those nearest me many a battle to fight, yet Truth was always the conqueror and I sincerely hope will ever be until the last fault has disappeared from my consciousness.
