It is with feelings of deepest gratitude to God and to our Leader that I give my testimony in regard to Christian Science. I had been a worker in the ministry for twenty years, having been ordained in an orthodox denomination, and God blessed my work both as a pastor and an evangelist. I was always ready to go at any call, and it was while I was very active in the work that my health failed. For three years I had been compelled almost to give up preaching. I felt at times that the harvest was indeed great, but the laborers few, and I hoped to be again able to work. Every effort I made, however, only left me more unfitted, and my physician told me I could not preach any more for a long time, if ever. I asked God to remove the great longing to help in the work of Christ if there was no more for me to do, and I then had a season of rest, but I grew steadily worse until my physician and friends gave up all hope of my ever being much better.

At this time a dear friend who had come to Christian Science came to see me. She had known me when I was engaged in church work. She told me of Christian Science. but I said I did not know anything about it and had regarded it as a sort of side issue leading away from the true Christian life. She explained it to me in such a plain, simply way that I began to heed what she said, and when she told me that it meant a better understanding of God's word and more of Christ in my life: that it was better than blind belief,—it was a certain knowledge,—how those words thrilled me. A new light came to my inmost consciousness, and I said if that is what Christian Science is, I want it, and I will have it.

My physical condition did not enter my mind, but anything that would give me more of Christ was what I wanted. I accepted it for spiriutal help and was healed bodily at once, and while at that time I had been taking several remedies, among them the most powerful heart remedies known, I have never used any material remedy since. Truth has made me free, and as I think of that wonderful work it seems to me that the words of Thomas are fitting for me: "My Lord and my God."
