Miracles
The Birmingham (Ala.) Age-Herald
Perhaps no little word in the English language by the simple perversion of its original meaning (as marvel or wonder) is and has been responsible for such un-belief, infidelity, and agnosticism, as has this one little word, miracle.
This perversion consists in the belief that the miracles of the Scriptures (or marvels of the Scriptures) are due to the suspension of law, instead of being natural expressions of God's love and watchful care ever at hand, only waiting for recognition to be available for every human need.
The human mind, expanding through observation, study, and experiment out of its old ignorance, bigotry, and superstition, recognizes a divine order and reign of law—a harmonious adjustment of relations and movements. The great sun as well as the wonderful comet (a seeming alien in the skies) obeys this newly discovered law.
