After the birth of our daughter in 1887 my wife was a complete wreck for eight years. Being unable to eat, walk, or ride, she was simply carried about from place to place in pursuit of health. We tried all schools of medicine in Bar Harbor, Ellsworth, Bangor, Boston, and Philadelphia. The last doctor consulted was one of Bangor's leading practitioners, who said, after a very careful diagnosis, that she could never be well without having a serious surgical operation, and recommended her to go to a hospital in Boston. After consulting the hospital surgeon there, it was decided that her case was too serious to be operated upon.
As a last resort, a stranger who saw her at the hotel advised her to try Christian Science. It was new to us, and we, like all others, were skeptical, but like the drowning man we were ready to grasp even the smallest straw and so consulted a practitioner, a perfect stranger to us, but with the happy result of immediate help and confidence in the beautiful realities of Christian Science. Mrs. Grant was healed, and for eight years has enjoyed good health and strength and we have not had one drop of medicine in our house nor consulted a doctor since April, 1895. Our hearts are filled with gratitude to God, and we very thankful to Mrs. Eddy, through whose understanding Christian Science has been brought to this age.
George H. Grant, Ellsworth, Me.
