I wish to tell how I came to Christian Science
I wish to tell how I came to Christian Science. I was a member of the Evangelical Church, which I attended very regularly, not only because it was customary or because our parents and grandparents had done so, but because I really felt edified and often took the words of the sermon home with me; my heart was touched and religion seemed very dear to me.
About five years ago, I ceased to find this edification in listening to sermons, I noticed contradictions, our denominational religion could no longer satisfy me and I longed for something better. I heard of Christian Science, went to the meetings, and the oftener I went the more I realized that this was the truth for which I had unconsciously longed. I found myself satisfied with the religion of Christian Science; it brought to me a happiness which I had never known before. People are usually led to Christian Science by the desire for physical healing. This was not the case with me, for I had enjoyed quite good health, and if something seemed to be wrong, I had paid little attention to it. I had never believed much in doctors and medicine, therefore I was very glad that Christian Science proved that these are unnecessary. During the last five years I have enjoyed better physical health than ever before. If headache or rheumatism made its appearance, I turned to Truth and it disappeared.
Last spring, however, I was taken down with a severe illness, and I suffered intensely with pain in my chest and back. It seemed as if the upper part of my body was wedged in so that I could hardly breathe. I did not seem to be able to meet it, and therefore asked for treatment. My practitioner worked for me almost four weeks until the trouble was so far overcome that I could go to her. It seemed to be stubborn and had gained a strong hold upon me, but with the love of God and the faithful work of the Scientist, it was finally destroyed. I thank God, who led me into Christian Science, for this positive proof of the power of Truth over error which was revealed to me.
