Among the Churches
Work begun in Dowagiac, Mich.
The local organization of Christian Scientists, about ten, have leased the large room in the rear of the auditorium of the Universalist Church where they will in the future conduct Christian Science meetings every Sunday morning at the regular church hour.
The society was organized in February last and the interest is deepening.—Exchange.
Church Organization in West Cleveland, O.
At its annual meeting, October 12, 1903, First Church of Christ, Scientist, Cleveland, gave a loving Godspeed to a small band of its members who felt the necessity of forming Third Church of Christ, Scientist, Cleveland, in the western portion of the city.
This move is in no sense one of separation, but a loving recognition of the needs of the Field, and is a distinct step of progress in the work in Cleveland.

Activity in the Northwest.
First Church of Christ, Scientist, of Puyallup, Wash., assisted by the churches in Seattle and Tacoma, kept open a Christian Science headquarters on the grounds at the Puyallup Valley Fair this fall, which lasted six days.
This being the first work of the kind ever done here, much curiosity was manifested, but before closing day it was quite generally expressed that it was one of the good features of the fair. A large quantity of literature was carefully distributed, and we feel sure that good results will follow.—Mrs. Clara Showers, Puyallup, Wash.
Encouraging Report from San Jose, Cal.
We publish the following interesting extracts from the president's annual report.—Eds.
This evening marks the seventh annual meeting of the Christian Scientists of San Jose, since organized into a church, October 6, 1896. These seven years have been prolific with countless blessings, not only to the church as a body but to each individual member thereof.
It has been the policy of this church, and doubtless will ever continue to be so, not to desire to increase its membership in numbers so much as in spirituality, hence the slow growth of our membership, but the great love and unity that exists with all its members.
The financial showing of our church during the past year has been most excellent. Since our last annual meeting this church together with its Sunday School has subscribed almost four thousand seven hundred and fifty dollars to the Building Fund of the Mother Church. Our own church building fund, and our general fund for church expenses show a large net gain, and this, too, in spite of the fact that our monthly expenses for the year have exceeded considerably those of any previous year.
Our reading room has grown steadily in usefulness, the attendance increasing very satisfactorily. During the past twelve months 1,408 Scientists have visited the reading room and four hundred and eighty-four strangers, making a total of one thousand eight hundred and ninety-two. The circulating library, an adjunct of the reading room, is an excellent institution, and fills an important place in the progress of the work in San Jose.
Our Sunday School is in a flourishing condition, showing a healthy growth in membership and attendance.
