I am very grateful to God that we now have a Christian Science periodical in the German language, because I cannot read English. I would like to help our German brethren and therefore will testify here to what Christian Science has done for me, and how I was led to accept the truth.

For several years I suffered with headaches. Sometimes the pain was so severe that it seemed as if I could not endure it; I felt dizzy and could hardly walk without being supported. At night I could not sleep longer than perhaps half an hour, afterwards I lay awake and the night seemed endless. As soon as I rose, my mouth filled with blood. No physician or medicine could cure me, and I grew worse continually.

Often I was unable to work and had to stay at home. Many times I fell upon my knees and called aloud to God to have mercy upon me. Then some one spoke to me of Christian Science and advised me to try it, but I would not. For half a year I not only waited, but I opposed it, and kept growing worse.

I could no longer take medicine, and in my distress I heard of a Christian Science practitioner, who had been instrumental in effecting many healings. I went to her on Thanksgiving evening, 1896, and was instantaneously healed. I slept all night, and not only was my body healed, I was healed. She read the sixth chapter of second Corinthians to me, and this opened my eyes. I saw what I had never before seen,—that I must strive to overcome all my faults. I have very often gone to my practitioner and she has patiently and lovingly directed me to the narrow path, for which I feel very grateful. I thank our heavenly Father for giving us our Leader and Teacher, Mrs. Eddy, through whom we have received the true light.

Last summer I had my greatest demonstrations. On May I, I was working for a farmer, when a horse kicked one of my legs. I suffered terribly at first, and had the wound examined by a surgeon who said that the bone was broken into splinters. I rested for a few days. On May 12, I fell and it broke anew, but my practitioner worked faithfully and with the love of God the trouble was soon overcome.

Later on another trial confronted me. On July 4, I was on a load of hay when one of the hind wheels broke, the wagon was upset, and I was thrown off. My collar-bone was not only broken but was put out of joint. Before going to a physician, I went to my practitioner and asked for help. She told me very lovingly that it would be better for me to overcome this alone with God. This at first almost frightened me, but it proved a blessing to me, for I learned that all our help comes from God alone. I applied my understanding of Christian Science for a week, then went to a physician to find out the condition of things. He at first thought I was but slightly injured, but when he examined me he wondered how it had been possible for me to work. He called to another physician, and they examined me a second time. They requested me to raise my arm. I did so, and they were astonished and said that they had never had such an experience, no one had ever been able to raise his arm in such a condition. They said that my collar-bone was broken in the worst possible way, that I must go to a hospital and undergo an operation.

I did not go, but sought refuge in God through the understanding of Christian Science, and He healed me. Ten days later I went back to the physician and asked him whether he did not think that I might now go back to work. He examined me and was astonished that I was healed in so short a time. He said that I was all right. Then I sat down and told him of my healing; I told him that God had healed me of all my trouble through Christian Science.

I wish that all the dear readers of this testimony might come to God through the study of Christian Science. "God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him."—J. Friedrich Wemmie, Burlington, Ia.
