"God's Little Ones"

IN answer to the question of his disciples, "Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?" Jesus, calling unto him a little child, said, "Whosoever . . . shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven," thus clearly showing humility to be the key which, unlocking the doors of heaven, reveals the "beauty of holiness."

To gain heaven who would not become humble,—humble as a little child? who would not gladly part with all which the world has given him of pride, self-love, fear, sensitiveness to appearances and to criticism, and take on instead the "robe of righteousness" whose interwoven threads are innocent, fearless trust; pure thinking; buoyant hope, and joyful contentment with present good?

During our walk through life we have all been blessed from time to time by contact with some of God's little ones; sometimes they have been children in years, sometimes they have reached the allotted "three score years and ten," and sometimes the snow of time has but lightly kissed their temples. But be they what the world calls young or old or middle-aged, if we will but clear our eyes of earthclouds we may see glowing in their foreheads the blessed "white stone" of purity as the sign and seal of their citizenship in the kingdom of heaven.
