It is beyond words to tell what the understanding of Christian Science has done for me, mentally and physically, the last four years. I turned to it for help when the doctors told me that their last resort, the climate of California, could do nothing for me. I had always been more or less ailing, but for six years I had been constantly under different doctors care, had done everything they had advised. When the doctor in Pasadena finally wrote my father that I was doomed to semi-invalidism I was driven to try Christian Science, which was presented to me at that time. I was under the Scientist's treatment from September to April, and then came back to Chicago to go through class. My healing certainly seemed not rapid, but I realize there was a gradual growth—a growth which is still going on. Now I am able to do as others do, and the idea of invalidism certainly does not apply to me.

But greater is the change in the religious thought,—instead of thinking of God as some great disciplinarian who is constantly punishing and torturing His children I know Him as ever-present Good, omnipotent Love, in whom I can trust and not be confounded. Standing alone in my family, as I seem to, the struggles have seemed many and the waters at times have seemed very bitter and deep but I am learning to "be still" and know that Love "is at the helm," and I can truly say that every struggle rightly met has meant only a larger blessing for me, and I do, indeed, give thanks.—Miss Alice P. Hagar, Chicago, Ill.
