Whither?

IT is fortunate that there is in this day a Church of Christ—a body of people—whose belief in the teachings of the Christ is so implicit that they stand as his stanch defenders against modern assaults upon his teachings. If there were not such a church and such a people, we should fear for the future of Christianity.

When the divinity of the works of Jesus, in healing the ills and discords of humanity, is lowered to the plane of modern materialistic methods, believers in the divinity of the Christ may well query: What is Christianity? What is the distinction between a spiritual and a material interpretation of the Bible? To whom shall the people look for a true explanation of the Scriptures? Whither is the age drifting?

Thank God, the people are more and more becoming earnest students of the Bible, as President Harper of the University of Chicago has recently so well said. (Vide Christian Science Journal for February, 1902, p. 726.)
