A New Year Wish, 1902
It
is not wealth I'd wish for thee, dear friend,
Nor fame, nor power thy destinies to bend
To suit thy will; nor love, nor peace, nor joy,
Nor health, nor e'en content without alloy.
But this my wish, which doth all these embrace,
And the false concept of all else efface:
An understanding heart to know thy God,
A willingness to follow where He leads,
A perfect trust that all things work for good,
And that He ever will supply thy needs.
