I thought I would add my mite to the already full measure...
I thought I would add my mite to the already full measure of proofs of what Christian Science has done and can do for suffering humanity. A little over seven years ago Christian Science healing was brought to the notice of my wife and myself by the healing of a friend of ours, and we decided that the Truth that healed her, was good enough for us.
We borrowed a copy of the text-book, read it through, and found that the Truth was plainly to be seen; and in the course of a month or so found there were a dozen or more who were also interested, and we began to meet Sunday afternoons and hold services. Then my wife's sister was healed of a claim which the doctors had pronounced incurable, which still further attracted us. So we go up a class of fourteen and had a teacher from Chicago come out and give us class instruction. Then we established First Church of Christian Scientist, of What Cheer, Ia. Although we have not grown in number very rapidly, we are still sowing the seed and the harvest is sure to come.
I must tell of one demonstration my wife and I had. I was a railroad switchman at the time, and I was squeezed between two cars until I could hear the bones crack and the life seemed almost crushed out of me. When I was released from the cars a gentleman took hold of me to help me stand, but knowing that God was my strength, I told him that I could stand alone, and I walked about thirty feet all by myself and sat down on the depot platform all the time declaring the Truth. The yard master came to me and asked me if I were hurt. I said no, but thought I would go home, and immediately got up and walked home, a little over two blocks.
