Christian Science and Spiritualism

Evening Star

To the Editor of the Schenectady Star.

Dear Sir:—A recent report cabled from Germany to your paper makes the curious mistake of confounding Christian Science with Spiritualism. There is no manner of kinship between the two. In fact, a whole chapter in the Christian Science text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker G. Eddy, is devoted to explaining the fundamental distinction between the two. On page 71 (Rev. Ed.) of this work are to be found the following words:—

"The basis and structure of Spiritualism are alike material and physical. Its spirits are so many corporealities, limited and finite in character and quality. Spiritualism therefore presupposes Spirit, which is ever infinite, to be capable of dwelling in finite forms,—a theory contrary to Christian Science."
