Knock and it Shall be Opened
In reading to-day in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," I commenced with the last paragraph on page 193 and read to bottom of page 195, and it seemed a much clearer message to suffering humanity than ever before.
The claims of material sense hold us in bondage only while we permit it, or in other words, until we destroy their supposed power by a steadfast declaration of the Truth as taught in Christian Science. We must have absolute confidence in the ability of God to do all that is good. We shall then give up the idea that drugs, climate, or any other material condition or thing can influence, help, or hurt us in any way, and that God does not require material means to work out His problems, or to bring their Truth to our consciousness so that we can work them out. We shall then understand that there is really only one power, which means only one God to worship and obey; and when we get that idea firmly and clearly into our thought and hold on to it, we shall then fully recognize the fact that God is the only power, and that its opposite, or supposed power, evil, which also means sin, sickness, old age, and other kindred ideas, are simply the counterfeit of Good, should not be believed, but cast out of our thoughts; treated as we would counterfeit money, even though a large number of people might say it was good money. So we must stop believing false statements, for until we do, we shall be in bondage to those so-called laws.
Our principal fault is in believing that there are gods many, which means a violation of the first commandment of decalogue.
We must seek the kingdom of God within us, by casting out that which is not good; such as hate, envy, strife, and all other things that we know and are taught are wrong. We must be honest with ourselves before we can be honest with others, and we must love our neighbor as ourself before we can love God. We must stop thinking wrong and destroy every temptation to think or do wrong, make a business of it every minute, every hour, then we shall be left alone with God and His goodness, have dominion over all things as He intended; then we have demonstrated harmony, or heaven, upon earth.
Many suffer and are not guilty of intentional wrongdoing, which also means wrong thinking; in such cases there is some lurking sin and it must be found out and destroyed. The sin may be so small to our sense, that we do not consider it a sin at all; but it is often these seemingly insignificant sins that cause us the most trouble, for they are subtle, work in the dark as it were, and strike us in the back when we are not looking, like the thief at night.
We should seek, seek, seek, until we find Him. Knock, watch, and wait, and His goodness will surely be revealed unto us. I believe this, and have found a portion of the Good that God has promised us, and thank our beloved Leader, Mary Baker G. Eddy, for having made that possible, by giving to the world what is contained in her book entitled, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures."
