My husband and I are deaf-mutes
My husband and I are deaf-mutes. Before we knew of Christian Science we had much trouble and sickness, it seemed one long struggle for daily existence. My husband's pay was small, the factory unpleasant, and the Union assessments frequent. Our lot seemed hopeless. We knew our sister was a Christian Scientist and talked often and much about it. One day about a year ago my husband was in bed sick with sciatic rheumatism. The doctor said it would be weeks before he would be able to work again. We sent for our sister and decided to change our way of doing entirely. We would stop putting our weight on the wrong side, we would trust absolutely in the allness of God. The doctor was dismissed and all the medicines were discarded. With Christian Science treatment he was able to be out of bed the next day and go to work the day following; the sciatica has never returned.
We then had treatment for our general unfortunate conditions. Circumstances forced my husband to give up his hard, unsatisfactory position; fear came in many times, but we put it out and trusted to God's goodness and love. After about six months' treatment the demonstration was complete and we feel "free indeed." My husband was sent for to take a position in a comfortable factory near home, with good pay, and never been idle a day since on account of sickness or lack of work. We attend the Christian Science Church services every Sunday and Wednesday. We have all the literature and get the Sunday Lesson. Our fourteen-year-old boy is a member of the Mother Church and of First Church here. He talks and hears, and helps us very much. We are thankful for Christian Science.—J. P. K., Chicago, Ill.
