In commenting upon the ethical value of Biblical stories like that of Abraham's offering of Isaac, the editor of The Outlook has recently referred to the potency of the ."inward light, the inward voice of divine revelation" which, reinforced perhaps by a prophet's rebuke, has broken "the dream of superstitious delusion with a mental awakening."

This statement of the order of Truth's advance in consciousness would do credit to a Christian Scientist, and it defines a process of spiritual evolution which obtains to-day no less surely than in the times of Abraham. Regeneration, the new birth, is just this progressive "awakening" to Truth, the breaking of the inner light of spiritual revelation upon the dark and delusive domain of false human sense.
