Words of Gratitude

Since reading the article "God is All-in-all" in the Journal for June, 1901, and particularly these lines, "Where I was once absorbent and found my satisfactions in being ministered unto, I have become radiant," I have felt that I, too, must become radiant, and give to our publications a few at least of the beautiful experiences that have come into my life through Christian Science.

When I first heard of Christian Science many years ago in Chicago, I had no kind feelings toward it or its adherents, but used to say they ought to be arrested, for they were dangerous to the community; that it was a menace to health and morals, and if persisted in would lead to insanity. Since I have honestly studied Christian Science I have seen the sick healed, I have seen the sinner reclaimed, I have seen those who were on the verge of insanity restored to a normal mental condition, all through Christian Science treatment.

It is four years since I came to Christian Science for physical help, when everything else had failed. I was suffering night and day from many diseases, but the first treatment was proof positive to me that there was a power of which I knew nothing. This one treatment did more for me than all the so-called "liberal" books I had ever read. It gave me relief and hope, and I have never lost it, but clung to it through many dark days. My healing was slow, and for this I am thankful. It caused me to learn the lesson of obedience. Gradually I grew better, in a few weeks I could go down town in a street car, then up and down stairs alone, and in four months' time we moved from our boarding house into two rooms, where I did light housekeeping. O so glad to be able to do something! I practised on the piano five hours a day, did my own housework, ran up stairs, and sewed on my machine.
